An interesting article about poverty in rich countries, and how it could be just as damaging as poverty in poor countries. Amartya Sen is quoted.
Being relatively poor in a rich country can be a great capability handicap, even when one’s absolute income is high in terms of world standards.

Indian Elections

In the recent elections in the North East, one election official dejectedly told the media how the politicians undermine the people's faith in democracy for 5 years and the Election Commission does its best to restore it, if only for the one day on which polling happens.
